Comprehensive Autism Spectrum Evaluation
At SIMPS Psychology, we specialize in providing comprehensive autism-specific psychological evaluations tailored to individuals ranging in age from 18 months to 18 years. These evaluations encompass an exhaustive assessment encompassing cognitive/developmental, behavioral, adaptive, social, and emotional domains.
Central to our assessment process, we utilize specific gold standard measures such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2), and the Autism Diagnostic Interview, Revised (ADI-R) to meticulously evaluate and assess characteristics indicative of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Additionally, through the evaluation process we systematically assess developmental and intellectual/cognitive functioning, adaptive skills, attention and hyperactivity, and executive functioning. The evaluation process, while at times demanding, is strategically designed to construct a panoramic view of an individual's inherent strengths and weaknesses. This holistic perspective aids in conceptualizing the challenges they may encounter when confronted with specific developmental and social demands. Moreover, it illuminates the multitude of strengths that each client possesses, ultimately serving as a guidepost for the formulation of effective treatment and support strategies moving forward.
Following the comprehensive autism evaluation, our clients and families benefit from an individualized feedback session. Subsequently, they receive a meticulously compiled comprehensive report replete with individualized recommendations and potential referrals. It is important to acknowledge that diagnostic evaluation reports are often extensive in their scope; nevertheless, they serve as an invaluable starting point for accessing various educational and support services.
These services encompass the potential initiation of the special education process, corroborating the need for accessing a 504 or IEP Plan to secure necessary accommodations, obtaining SAT/ACT accommodations, pursuing admission to gifted and talented schools, accessing speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, applied behavior analysis services, and state-funded waiver services.
In terms of appointments, the evaluation process involves a comprehensive diagnostic interview conducted with the client's caregiver (conducted via Telehealth). Subsequently, an in-person testing session is scheduled with the client (which must be completed in-person), followed by a feedback session. During the latter, we meticulously review the findings of the report, discuss any potential diagnoses, and engage in conversations pertaining to recommendations and next steps aimed at supporting the client. It is pertinent to note that these feedback sessions are conducted via Telehealth.
Furthermore, upon the culmination of the assessment process, you will receive a a comprehensive evaluation report, encompassing medical diagnoses, a complete interpretation of the evaluation findings including all standardized scores, and an exhaustive list of recommendations. It is essential to consider that depending on individual circumstances, additional in-person testing sessions may be warranted.
In terms of the timeframe involved, an autism evaluation, inclusive of report writing, generally requires approximately 15 hours of professional effort. Our current rate for services is $200 per hour. We remain committed to delivering exceptional evaluations and services to our clients, guided by our dedication to their well-being.
